Thursday Evening

post by human -

My darling dog, I have never been without a dog in my life these long years I have lived it, and for the past fifteen and a half, not without you by my side. Over three continents, through life upheavals, career changes and a long road - I was never alone, for you have always been with me, human, fallible, imperfect as I am and you have never once ceased to love me with all of your canine soul, your deep eyes full of devotion and lifelong friendship. We have always been there for each other, never left each other behind, even when continents and oceans separated us, we were never apart for long.

It is heartbreaking for me to watch you growing old and feeble, and now these five days past I cannot get you to eat, though I've tried, have been dumping pills disovled in water down your snout, which you hate, have been plumping your bed as you grow skinnier, getting you out of corners in the middle of the night when you go wandering and get stuck, and talking to you when you pull away from me as if you've forgotten who I am. I will be strong for you, dearest dog, and watch over you. When you at last must go from me, please remember me to all of those who have left their pawprints so indelibly on the walls of my heart. I love you, dearest dog. I love you.

oh I am sorry you are feeling so blue, I hope things get better soon, sometimes dogs just have bad days like we humans, especially getting older and such.

Wanted to thank you for your kind invitation left on our Aussie blog, when I was in Sydney, sadly it was but a fleeting visit. And only read your comment about getting in touch once we returned back to Melbourne.

I would loved to have met up with you if I had known.

I have been home in Scotland over a week now, and still thinking about my amazing adventure.

I loved Australia, we (husband) and me, are planning a trip next spring, hiring a camper van and doing a trip up from Melbourne to Sydney along the coast. Will keep you posted!

lotsaluv and hugs to you all,

paws crossed too.

Our hearts go out to you. I remember a story about a dog growing old and having to assist the dog across the rainbow bridge while at their vet. They were trying to explain figure out how to explain it to their young child, when their son in his youthful wisdom responded. He knew why dogs had to die so much sooner than people. It was because they already knew how to love and forgive and people had to learn that.

Take care of yourself. We will be here for you if you want to chat or just ramble on.

Dog Speed,

Essex, Deacon and Dog Dad too.

Helping a dog age with grace and dignity is the greatest gift we can give them, especially after all the love they have given us. He's watched over you all these years, now it is time to watch over him. He may not have the energy to show it, but he loves you for it.

My thoughts are with you.

we're stopping by to send gentle snuffs and butt bopps to charlie...and to his human, some gentle hugs. as the keeper of the dog the humans have a definite role to play when we can not help ourselves. the time will come, and you will know when it is. charlie will need his dignity as he travels to the rainbow bridge. he will always be with you and lives in your heart.... celebrate his life.
best to you both,

It is perhaps the hardest part of having such a wonderful friend and companion - watching them growing old and knowing there is nothing we can do but make them comfortable and make sure they do not suffer. Having been through this a number of times already myself, I know it never gets easier and it is the same as loosing a child and you will need time to grieve. I can not help but cry as I write this as I know how much it hurts, but the key is to eventually focus on all those fantastic memories and adventures. Hugs - Bree and Reilly

Dear Human of Charlies,

The bestest gift you give a beloved furbaby is the gift of being released from a frail, failing body. We know that it hurts you so much to do this for us, and we can only show you how much we appreciate it once you cross the bridge and join us.

Please know that we are purring for you, Charlie and the rest of your family.

Dear Charlie, getting old is certainly not fun. It would be so much fun to be like we were years ago.
Still,we have had good long lives.I think of family and friends who went to the Bridge much younger than we did.
We know our humans will do their best to keep us happy and comfortable and happy. I do hope you are still happy.
Whatever you decide,my friend, I will support you. I will keep you in my purrs.
