Saturday Night

Yes, I've been sleeping... sleeping the long, deep sleep of golden years and the silvery haze falls over my eyes, the mists of the past float through my puppy dreams.  Dreams of smow, of crisp autumn leaves, of the Grunewald and of the myriad smells of many interesting creatures going about their creature business; of frozen lakes in the winter, of lapping water in the summer, boats, raccoons, the odd mink sitting on a fencepost in America's North, keeping a sharp eye out for kestrels; the horses and the big skies of Texas; and then there are those many many cyber-animal-blogging-friends who have been kind to let me into their happy lives and to share in my small puppy adventures, the best, yes the best a dog could have in old age.  I must confess, my dreams do keep me busy.  How else is a dog to while away the forty-plus degree heat?  It has been a very hot Summer, and it's not over.

However, it is remiss of me not to have put the paws to the keyboard in such a long while.  Though the heat is strong, and saps the energy from the best of us, I have been encouraged to eat more than a meal a day, which makes my human happy as she thinks I'm getting too thin.  (I don't see her pigging out in 42ºC with a fur coat like mine!)

I have been the recipient twice of a most honourable award, many warm thanks, however belated, to Latte and Scylla, Charybdis and Socks:

H is for Higgins, my beloved brother, may he rest peacefully in the Great Forest Beyond.


H is for Hippopotamus - aren't they cute - I want one for my bathtub.

H is for Hydrangea, my human's favourite flowers.


H is for Horse, like the little one that was born in the stables where I lived as a puppy those long years ago.


H is for Happiness, like the kind I feel when I'm with my human - she's the best!

And on the subject of awards... Australia have lost both the one-day and test series to South Africa, but they do not go away empty-handed. I am giving them the BIG AWARD for the DUMBEST LOOKING UNIFORMS ON THE PLANET - (what are those, space suits?) SORRY GUYS, IT'S JUST NOT CRICKET!
